Tia Bosswia

STEM Educator in Baltimore

Tia Bosswia is a STEM-focused teacher who engages the youth of Baltimore and surrounding counties in increasing their academic, social, and life experiences in order to develop innovative 21st century skills and field experiences. Ms. Bosswia has devoted 100% of her research and educational teaching experience to working with the youth of Baltimore City for the last 25 years as an educator who strategically aligns herself to the deficits and needs of urban youth. Ms. Bosswia coordinates and engages students in exploratory field experiences with community partners such as NASA (Morgan State University), JHU Goddard Space Center, Thurgood Marshall Fund, and JHU MERIT Medical Disparity Program, the latter of which where she also served as a fellow teacher. She also has extensive experience with innovative teaching strategies for learning and field experiences for students, and with facilitating professional development for colleagues. In order to keep her skills sharp and in tune with current scientific discoveries, Ms. Bosswia consistently attends professional development opportunities around the DMV area.

Ms. Bosswia makes it abundantly clear that she is on a mission to find pathways in which all young people can succeed. She believes that it is crucial to assist students to think for themselves, navigate their own unconventional learning paths, and align themselves with mentors and support systems that aid them in transcending through the maze of preparation for college and career readiness, and ultimately fulfilling their dreams. Her recent activities include assisting students in fulfilling graduation requirements, providing weekend educational opportunities, planting a few hundred trees with Parks & People and the Audubon Association, taking students on grant-funded field experiences with the Chesapeake Bay Trust, tutoring young men with Mentoring Male Teens in the Hood, and serving as BIOEYES Master Teacher with John Hopkins Carnegie Institute, as well as serving as a board member of ESTEAM. Additionally, Ms. Bosswia has volunteered as a teacher with Children’s Church at Timothy Baptist Church, and has assisted with Tape Ministry. She is known to physically knock on doors around the community to invite children to receive help with homework, food, and clothing, or to attend free academic experiences.
